Here is another questions posed by a blogging friend:
What influences your art? What negative influences should I be on the alert for?
I think lots of things can influence your art: a movie you just watched, imagined imagery from a book you were reading, the colors in an ad you saw in a magazine. We are living in such a visual culture today, there are things to see everywhere we go, and sometimes we will find inspiration in the strangest of places.
That said, for me, I think looking at the work of other artists has the strongest influence on me. Specifically, looking at the work of artists who are alive and working today really influences my work a lot. Seeing their work shows me what is going on in the contemporary art, what is trendy, and what is new. Art trends change like fashion trends, and I think it is important (and fun!) to keep up. I'm sure other people might disagree.
As far as negative influences, I can't think of too many... I think you have to be careful to not get too absorbed in a specific artist's work to the point where your work starts looking like theirs. It's important to find your own style that will stand out and differentiate you from other artists working today. That said, don't get stuck in a style rut either - allow your work to evolve and grow over time. Experimenting is fun and so useful when it comes to making art!
I hope that helps. What do other people think?

Life. Whatever comes up, gets drawn up... in some way, some form or some suggestion. I am only an expert in one subject... me. So why not document the life I am living. I know nothing else. It get's boiled down and symbolized though. This extends, by the way, to issues of the day, (War, Oil spills, other political issues). Life experience is fertile to inspire imagery.
